Sad News For All

It is with a heavy heart that I pass on this sad news to you all.

One of our long time members, Joel Fandino, sadly passed away on Tuesday, 2nd August, after a short illness.

Joel joined us a couple of years ago and played regularly in our ‘C’ grade whenever he was in town (Joel was a flight steward).

Joel loved playing badminton and participated in 3 of our competitions, culminating in a place in this year’s event with his doubles partner, Nui. In fact, I have just received an email from Nui and would like to repeat his words here.

Dear Bill,
I’m still in Canada. Got gold medal and it’s for Joel. He was going to be my partner in Outgames. RIP my dear friend.
Take care, Nui

Joel’s happy nature, friendliness and eagerness meant that he made many friends, both within our group and outside. I know that there are many of you who are or will be feeling his loss greatly. I share that feeling with you.

Remember that our club is not just about playing badminton. It is about friendship and support for each other. In times like this, remember that there are plenty of shoulders to have a cry on and people who will help you get through the hard times.

Our sympathies go out to Joel’s family and his partner, Mark.  There are no words that will help ease the pain you are going through, but our thoughts are with you.

Rest In Peace Joel
